Infection and Immunity
April-May 2003

CFRI piloted Vancouver's first ever Mini Med School Series in the spring of 2003. During the months of April and May, a cohort of some 200 members of the public, including highly motivated high school students, took part in 8 interactive evening sessions, under the theme of Infection and Immunity, spearheaded by Dr. David Speert, a Children's Hospital pediatrician and CFRI Principal Investigator in infection and immunity, along with Dr. Julian Davies, Professor Emeritus in immunology at UBC. At the end of the series, 4 exceptional high school students were awarded summer studentships to work in CFRI labs. The curriculum for the spring 2003 pilot series included: follows:
